About us

Advancing health care education through virtual reality

Our story

ScenariX is a digital medical simulation center developed as an academic spin‑off, focused on advancing healthcare education, skill development, and research. Our mission is to equip medical professionals to excel in high‑pressure environments through immersive and adaptable VR simulations. Currently colalborating with LUMC hospital in the Netherlands and the Erasmus Medical Center.

Why we exist

Patient outcomes improve when teams practice together—especially in rare, high‑stakes situations. We created ScenariX so clinicians can rehearse complex decisions, teamwork, and communication safely and repeatedly, with real‑time instructor control and structured debriefs.

Why ScenariX?

What makes us different

Academic roots, clinical rigor: Designed with educators and front‑line clinicians.

Adaptable by design: Trainers adjust physiology and context mid‑scenario.

Team‑first approach: Built for multiplayer, communication, and human factors.

Evidence‑driven: Continuous research and validation guide our roadmap.

Roadmap & reach

Platform focus: Build a world‑class VR platform for medical professionals, starting with anesthesia, expanding to ER and ICU.

Partnerships: Establish collaborations with hospitals in the Netherlands and across Europe.

Scale: Expand globally, targeting 300+ hospitals throughout Europe.

Meet the team

Krista Hoek - Founder

ScenariX was founded by Krista Hoek, anesthesiologist–intensivist specialised in medical education, driven by a clear gap in medical simulation training. During her clinical education, Krista experienced firsthand how traditional manikins and standardized patients often felt artificial, costly, and poorly aligned with real-life patient encounters. They rarely captured the complexity of clinical decision-making, communication, and human interaction.

To work on these limitations, she started ScenariX as an independent initiative, exploring how immersive, scenario-based technology could make medical training more realistic, accessible, and effective. What began as a solo project quickly grew into a multidisciplinary team sharing the same goal: simulation that prepares clinicians for real practice.

Today, ScenariX develops immersive training solutions grounded in clinical reality and modern medical education.

Molly Fitzpatrick

Molly Fitzpatrick, PhD, is a medical anthropologist with extensive research experience in healthcare settings. She is a lecturer in global health and medical anthropology, supervises research projects in the field of healthcare, develops cultural sensitivity trainings for healthcare providers, and gives trainings in therapeutic communication. As an ethnographer, she is adept at translating the complex realities of everyday care relations into meaningful case studies and scenarios that can be used for medical training. Drawing on her expertise in the anthropology of care, care ethics, and the analysis of professional and institutional morality, she contributes to the scientific grounding and quality of ScenariX’s research and educational projects.
